In 2019, a travel was being organized to discover an Asian country. So much destinations to go to but only to pick up at a time. Then, it was decided to fly to the Philippines. This country is an archipelago located in the south east of the Asian continent and which is made of more than 7 000 islands. Each one has its features and the aim was then to explore a few of them, starting by the main island called Luzon where we landed in Manila the capital city.

LUZON

The first big step of the trip was a long road to take to reach the north of the island. This is where we could start hiking in the mountains and visit different villages far from everything but offering a very peaceful atmosphere and beautiful landscapes with incredible paddy fields such as the one in Batad which was for us the most impressive by its size. Along the way, we could meet local people, share their culture and observe their way of life.

During a few days, we were then immersed in a very exotic environment for the sportive part of the travel. After this effort we had the chance to visit a big cave with narrow tunels we had to go through which turned the visit into a small exploration thanks to the knowledge of our guide. In the end of the trip we went through some gloomy forests and a local sanctuary in order to reach a graveyard and the famous hanging coffins.

Before leaving the northern region of Luzon, it was unthinkable to not sing in a karaoke (very popular) and taste the “Balut” (steamed egg incubated and the foetus is already fomed). The time came to go back to Manila, take two days to visit the capital city of the country and fly to discover another island.

PALAWAN

Palawan was the second island we flew to. This is a famous archipelgo of the Philippines which is developping from the last few years. We landed in El Nido and from there, it is possible to sail by boat between all the sharp and rocky mountains in the middle of the sea.

The main activities were chilling and snorkeling everywhere we could to observe the colorful fishes and aquatic flora and even discover some lagoons, hidden, where the only way to enter is underwater. Fitting perfectly with our activities, we could eat fresh local seafood and fruits every day !

The end the visit of Palawan brings us to the next step, Bohol.

BOHOL

A small island in the center of the Philippines archipelago (the central Visayas), Bohol has some interesting features. Indeed, it is well knows for the incredible Chocolate Hills, unusual cone-shaped geological formations covered by vegetation (more than 1 200) whose name is given because of the color turning to brown on the dry season.

The other main feature of this small island is the tarsier, a very small nocturnal primate which has huge eyes (overscaled compared to the body volume) and developped feet. This cute animal is protected as it was threatened by its popularity (even sold on the black market) but it is possible to observe it in a sanctuary in the respect of specific rules, avoiding to disturbed them as they are sensitive to stress.

SIQUIJOR

After a few days in Bohol, the next move was to explore Siquijor, a very small island located in the south west of Bohol still in the Visayas, in the center of the Philippines.

The island is described by the local people as a mystical island and it is often associated to myth, legends and black magic. It is not recommended to viisit the “healers” which prepare some potions in the remote mountains of the area.

The rest of the island is extraordinary beautiful, the white sand beaches, the rivers and waterfalls with milky water were from the best highlights of the travel.

CEBU

The final destination to complete the travel was Cebu island reached from Siquijor by boat. It is known as the place to be to see some whale sharks, the biggest fishes in the world but not dangerous for humans, that’s why it is possible to be in the water swimming around them.

Still driving our small motobikes, we could find some hikes to simply enjoy forests, rivers and waterfalls. This trip was giving an end to the travel as it was time to fly back home in Europe.
